Blepharoplasty

It improves the deformations in the lower and upper eyelids and provides a young appearance.

Blepharoplasty

The sagging of the skin, which loses its elasticity with age, shows its first effects in and around the eyes, where the fatty tissue is least present. Loss of elasticity, drooping eyelids, and bags under the eyes, and sagging skin under the influence of gravity are among the biggest problems with mature skin. In addition to advancing age, factors such as genetics, excessive smoking and alcohol consumption, and unprotected sun exposure can also cause problems with the eyes and eye area and accelerate the effects of aging.

Although upper and lower eyelid deformities do not usually pose a health problem, they can disrupt the esthetic appearance. The treatment method preferred by patients who complain of drooping eyelids and sagging eye areas is eyelid esthetics, also called blepharoplasty. Eyelid esthetics is one of the most commonly performed esthetic surgeries today, as it provides our patients with the fastest, most practical, and most permanent results.

Blepharoplasty, the aesthetic surgery of the upper and lower eyelids, is performed specifically for the problem area that the patient is unhappy with. These two procedures can be performed in a single surgery, depending on the patient's needs and Dr. Ahmet Dilber's professional opinion.

How is upper eyelid blepharoplasty performed?

Upper eyelid blepharoplasty is performed on patients with drooping eyelids. Before any surgery, the patient undergoes a routine examination. Dr. Ahmet Dilber measures and draws the patient's eyelid area prior to surgery. These measurements and drawings are specific to each patient.

Upper eyelid blepharoplasty is performed under local anesthesia to remove excess skin and muscle from the eyelid through small incisions. These incisions are made in the crease of the eyelid and sutured with absorbable stitches so that the surgical scar is not visible. After the upper eyelid blepharoplasty, which takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour, the patient is observed in the hospital for a while and then discharged.

How is the aesthetic procedure of lower eyelid blepharoplasty performed?

The fatty tissue on the cheekbones shifts downward under the influence of aging and gravity. This shift causes sagging under the eyes. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty, like upper eyelid surgery, can be performed after routine examinations and measurements by Dr. Ahmet Dilber.

During the lower eyelid blepharoplasty, which takes 45-60 minutes under local anesthesia, the fat bags that have changed their position under the cheekbones are first lifted. After this procedure, in some cases, there is no need for further lower eyelid surgery. Dr. Ahmet Dilber examines the need in this area, and if necessary, small incisions are made under the eyelashes and the fat bags are distributed to the eye pit. Excess skin and muscles are removed from this area, and the open incisions are closed with absorbable sutures. After the lower eyelid surgery, the patient stays in the hospital for observation and is then discharged.

Day 1: The patient can be discharged following the final post-operative examinations. The protective patches placed in the area can be removed on the first day after the surgery in our clinic. The patient can apply cold compresses to the area as recommended by Dr. Ahmet Dilber and should sleep in the supine position.

Day 5: The patient, whose controls are performed by Dr. Ahmet Dilber, can go home at the end of the fifth day. Since the sutures used in the surgery are absorbable, they do not need to be removed. (The sutures dissolve in 5-21 days.) Heavy activities and sports should be avoided for 7-14 days, and the area should be protected from impact.

Days 10-14: The recovery time for eyelid surgery is 10 days on average. During this time, swelling and edema start to go down.

Month 1: It is very important for the healing process that the recommended creams and eye drops are used regularly after the patient's return home. Monthly follow-ups with patients continue either face-to-face or through images sent through WhatsApp.

By the 10th-14th day after eyelid esthetics, improvement is largely achieved, and eyelid functions begin normalizing.
