Eyelid Esthetics

It improves the deformations in the lower and upper eyelids and provides a young appearance.

Eyelid Esthetics

The sagging of the skin, which loses its elasticity with age, shows its first effects in and around the eyes, where the fatty tissue is least present. Loss of elasticity, drooping eyelids and bags under the eyes, and sagging skin under the influence of gravity are among the biggest problems of mature skin. In addition to advancing age, factors such as genetics, excessive smoking and alcohol consumption, and unprotected sun exposure can also cause problems with the eyes and eye area and accelerate the effects of ageing.

Although upper and lower eyelids deformities do not usually pose a health problem, they can disrupt the esthetic appearance. The treatment method preferred by our patients who complain of drooping eyelids and sagging eye area is eyelid esthetics, also called blepharoplasty. Eyelid esthetics is one of the most commonly performed esthetic surgeries today, as it provides our patients with the fastest, most practical, and most permanent results.

Blepharoplasty, the esthetics of the lower and upper eyelids, is performed specifically for the problem area the patient is complaining about. These two procedures can be performed in a single surgery, depending on the patient's needs and Dr Ahmet Dilber's professional opinion.

How is upper eyelid esthetics performed?

Upper eyelid esthetics is applied to our patients with drooping eyelids. Before any surgery, our patients first undergo a routine examination. Dr Ahmet Dilber takes measurements and marks the patient's eyelid area before surgery. These measurements and drawings are made specifically for each of our patients.

During upper eyelid surgery, under local anesthesia, excess skin and muscle tissue on the eyelid is removed using small incisions. These incisions are made in the eyelid's crease and sutured with self-dissolving suture material so that the surgical scar is not visible. After the upper eyelid surgery, which takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour, our patient is observed in the hospital for a while and then can return home or to the hotel.

How is the esthetics of the lower eyelids performed?

The fatty tissue located on the cheekbones shifts downward under the influence of ageing and gravity. This shift causes sagging under the eyes. In lower eyelid surgery, just like in upper eyelid surgery, the surgery can be performed after routine checks and measurements by Dr Ahmet Dilber.

During lower eyelid surgery, which takes 45-60 minutes under local anesthesia, the fat bags that have changed their position under the cheekbones first hang in place. After this procedure, in some cases, intervening in the lower eyelid is no longer necessary. Dr Ahmet Dilber checks the need in this area, and if necessary, small incisions are made under the eyelashes and the fat bags are distributed to the eye pit. Excess skin and muscles are removed from this area, and the opened incisions are closed with self-dissolving sutures. After the lower eyelid esthetics, our patient stays in the hospital for observation; then, he/she can return home or to his/her hotel.

Day 1: After the eyelid surgery, our patient can go to the hotel or home to rest while the final checks are performed. The protective patches stuck in the area can be removed on the first day after the surgery in our clinic. Our patient can apply cold compresses to the area as recommended by Dr Ahmet Dilber and should sleep in the supine position.

Day 5: Our patient, whose controls were performed by Dr Ahmet Dilber, can go home at the end of the fifth day if he/she lives in the city or abroad. Since the sutures used in the surgery are self-dissolving, they do not need to be removed. (The sutures dissolve in 5-21 days.) Heavy activities and sports should be avoided for 7-14 days, and the area should be protected from impact.

Days 10-14: recovery time for eyelid surgery is 10 days on average. During this time, swelling and edema decreased.

Month 1: It is very important for the healing process to use the recommended creams and eye drops regularly when our patient goes home. Monthly check-ups of our patients continue, with face-to-face or WhatsApp images.

By the 10th-14th day after eyelid esthetics, improvement is largely achieved, and eyelid functions begin normalizing.
